What Kind of Socks Do I Wear With Vans High Tops
That's it, the sun's out, and with it, the nation's ankles. From now until late October, socks are officially an optional part of your wardrobe. But, should you be going barefoot at every opportunity or keeping your ankles under wraps? The flashing of an ankle has become more than a concession to hot weather, it's now a signifier, a way of demonstrating your style credentials. But are they the sort of credentials you want to be flashing? Men's Health addresses the sock dilemma.

The simple answer is: yes. If you're wearing shoes of any kind, you should also be wearing socks. Your feet produce half a pint of moisture each day and if you let that soak straight into your shoes, you'll have about a week, tops, before people start giving you and your feet a wide berth. But that doesn't mean your socks have to be visible. Trainer socks and shoe liners that sit below the edge of your shoe will create a barrier between your feet and shoe leather, making it look like you've gone sockless.

White socks and sandals
Less than five years ago you'd have rightly been exiled from civilised society for attempting to wear socks with sandals. But, thanks to a mix of 'fashion antagonizers' and some bold style pioneers (notable examples include David Beckham and Stormzy), white socks worn with sliders is officially a thing. And you know what? It doesn't look that bad. Clearly, it's not for everyone, but given the rise of the designer slider and the undeniable comfort factor, we say socks and sandals can be a thing. Just tread carefully.

Trainers without socks

Wearing trainers without socks is an entry level ankle display. The gap between shoe and trouser will look fine with jeans, chinos or joggers and once it's hot enough, shorts, obviously. Use trainer socks to prevent your inevitably sweaty feet ruining your new kicks and match the colour of the sock to the trainer. This point is especially relevant if you're wearing anything made from mesh fabric (like Nike's Vapormax), which will show the colour of the sock beneath it.

A suit without socks
Once you get past the feeling that you've forgotten something as you're leaving the house, wearing a suit without socks is more than just a continental sartorial nod, it's also a useful way of staying cool during the summer months. In order to make it look deliberate, your trousers need to finish on or just above your ankle. They also need to be tapered slightly so that they don't look like you're dressing up as a scarecrow. Wear leather shoes, as you would with a normal suit, but make sure you use the aforementioned shoe liners, in black. In addition, give leather shoes at least a day to dry out between wears. Suitable for weddings, dates and the office, at a push.
